Adding a web app to the home screen (iOS 7)

Has anyone ever asked you to add their web app to your home screen, leaving you wondering what the heck were the words that just came out of their mouth? Or maybe you’re the one doing the asking and you want to link your user to an easy tutorial with screenshots?

Either way this post is for you! Click on the link relevant to you to get started.

Add to home screen on iPhone

Step 1: Open the website in Safari

This part is easy, if you’re an iDevice user you will know what Safari is by now. So open it up and type/paste in the link that you were given.

Step 2: Tap the “share” icon

Below is a screenshot with the “share” icon circled. You should tap that bad-boy.

Step 3: Tap “Add to Home Screen”

Tap the button that’s circled in the image below.

Step 4: Give it a name

What you see next should match the image below. You can give the web app a name of your choosing. Then tap the blue “Add” button at the top right of the screen.

Step 5: Done and Done

You should now be taken to your home screen, where you will see the new app that we just added to your home screen. Tap the icon to open the app, just like a “real” app!

I don’t have an Apple iDevice

Then I’m surprised you got this far! But since you have here’s a bit of a tip for Android users:
Use Google Chrome, sync it with your Google Account and utilise mobile bookmarks to your advantage, they appear on your new tab screen which can be pretty darn useful.

Jolly good effort!
